There’s always tension between our energies and the garments we wear. And what if the garment channelled them instead of containing them? Designer Winde Rienstra tries this with her SS2012 collection, “11:11″
The young Dutch fashion designer presented her latest creation on 13 July during Amsterdam Fashion Week, and it explores the concept of human energy, which becomes tangible via clothing, a fusion of sustainability, fashion and art.
“11:11” aims at skilfully capturing a particular energy, the one manifested by a person who has attained a high level of awareness. Winde’s intention is to radiate an energy which would otherwise be invisible through simple clothing.
In terms of styling, the garments are enveloped by visual order, proportion and rhythm. A modern approach to classic shapes, where the simple cream colour is in contrast with the complex cages designed in 3D and made by hand.
In 2007, Winde Rienstra won the “Dutch Design Idols” award with her collection, “Without Title”, and she took part in “The Green Fashion Competition” in 2010 for her work method according to principles of sustainability, which is considered to be “green haute couture”.
